Pets are accepted within Hawaii and between Hawaii and the U.S. mainland, subject to Hawaii's entry rules: no animals arriving in Honolulu after 10 pm, and non-stop flights to Kona, Lihue or Kahului need a Neighbor Island Inspection Permit (dogs and cats only). Service animalsTrained service dogs travel free (up to two per guest) with the U.S. DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form, ideally submitted 48 hours before departure. Emotional support animals travel as pets.

Good to know

Hawaiian Airlines has been part of Alaska Air Group since September 18, 2024 (per Alaska's newsroom), and the two airlines now share the same pet policy pages, so the rules and fees here match our Alaska Airlines page. Hawaii is rabies-free: dogs and cats flying from the U.S. mainland need a health certificate dated no more than 14 days before arrival and must meet the State of Hawaii's Animal Quarantine rules, or they can be quarantined for up to 120 days at the owner's expense. Pet space is limited and must be reserved before the day of travel; the passenger with a pet in the cabin must be 18 or older, and the pet counts toward the carry-on allowance (except on flights within Hawaii). An older Hawaiian Pet in Cabin Travel Guide (PDF, revised December 2024) also listed JFK, BOS, AUS and SLC as routes with no in-cabin pets; the current official page does not, so confirm with the airline for those routes.
