Book your pet trip: flights, hotels, airport rides & vets
Everything to book for a trip with your dog or cat, in one place: flights, pet-friendly hotels, a taxi or rideshare from the airport, the vet visit for the health certificate, and travel insurance. Every rule is from the official source and dated.
Flights
Compare fares, then book your pet’s spot directly with the airline: in-cabin pet space is limited per flight, so call or add the pet right after you buy the ticket. Check the airline’s pet policy and carrier size first.

Taxis & airport rides with your pet
From the airport to your hotel: request a pet ride in the Uber or Lyft app (US). Rules below are from their official help pages; there are no affiliate links in this section.
Uber Pet
- Pets
- One pet per trip: a small animal such as a dog or a cat. Additional pets are at the driver's discretion. No breed or size restrictions.
- Fee
- Uber Pet costs more than other vehicle options: an Uber Pet surcharge is included in the upfront fare when you select it. A cleaning fee may be charged if your pet leaves waste, excessive hair or damages the vehicle. Uber's driver page says drivers earn an extra Uber Pet fee of $4 in the US ($5 in Canada).
- Where
- Choose Uber Pet in the vehicle options of the Uber app where it is offered. It is an UberX option served by drivers who opt in (not UberXL or Uber Black); in some areas you can reserve it in advance (reservation fee in the upfront fare).
- Tips
- Restrain your pet with a leash, harness or crate/carrier, bring a blanket or towel for the seat, and ask the driver where the pet should sit.

Lyft Pet
- Pets
- One well-behaved animal, plus up to four people. As a courtesy, the pet should ride in a carrier, on a blanket or at your feet.
- Fee
- An additional fee that goes directly to the driver. Lyft's driver page says drivers earn a $4 bonus for every Pet ride.
- Where
- U.S. only. Select the Pet ride option in the Lyft app.

Robotaxis: service animals only

Service animals ride on Uber and Lyft at no extra charge even without a Pet ride (Uber and Lyft help pages). Checked on the official Uber, Lyft, Waymo, Zoox and Tesla pages on ; fees and availability change, so check the app before you ride.
Vet clinics & health certificates
Flying abroad, or to some states, usually means a health certificate, up-to-date rabies vaccination and sometimes a microchip, tests or a permit, all within strict time windows. In the US, a USDA-accredited veterinarian issues the certificate and USDA APHIS endorses it for international travel. Book that vet visit early.
Partner clinics coming soon. We only list veterinary clinics that have agreed to be listed, and none has confirmed yet. They will appear here and on Partner vets by country and city as soon as they confirm. Until then, use the official tools below to find a vet who can sign your pet’s health certificate.
Find an accredited vet: official tools
- USDA APHIS: Find an accredited veterinarian (search by state and county) ↗
The official NVAP search tool. Choose your state and county and Category I (dogs and cats). Not every accredited vet chooses to be listed, so you can also ask your own vet whether someone in the practice is USDA-accredited. - USDA APHIS: How do I find a USDA-accredited veterinarian? ↗
Most countries require the health certificate to be issued by a USDA-accredited vet and then endorsed by APHIS. Accreditation is state-specific: the vet must be accredited in the state where you see them. - USDA APHIS: Take a pet from the US to another country ↗
Step-by-step export process and each destination country's requirements. Contact an accredited vet as soon as you decide to travel. - USDA APHIS: Pet travel (all topics) ↗
Domestic and international pet travel, including which animals count as pets and the CDC rules for dogs.
Official USDA pages checked . We do not book vet appointments and are not paid for referrals.
Paperwork by destination
- Pet travel rules for the USA: federal rules and each state’s health certificate and rabies rules.
- USA to Japan: the Japan health certificate (Form AC) completed by a USDA-accredited vet, microchip, rabies titer test and the 180-day wait.
- USA to South Korea: ISO microchip, rabies vaccination, a rabies antibody (FAVN) test and a health certificate endorsed by USDA APHIS within 30 days of export.
